Martron has been on a run this year, and he isn’t slowing down. The Los Angeles-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and classically trained musician has linked up with longtime collaborator Tauklo for “Hit The Road,” a bright indie-electronic single that serves as the first look at his upcoming Drive EP.
“Hit The Road” is built around a bouncy drum & bass groove, melodies that stick with you after the first listen, and Tauklo’s unmistakable vocal delivery. The track is about taking risks and pushing forward no matter what gets in the way. Its refrain turns into a mantra: when something is motivating you to move, you go before the moment passes. Martron closes it out with a burst of flute chords, an organic touch that stands out against the colorful electronic production around it.
The song started as an old idea that Martron kept coming back to over the past couple of years. He knew it had the makings of the lead single for Drive, but it needed the right voice.
“‘Hit The Road’ came together out of nowhere and pretty fast from an old idea I started a couple years ago. I worked on it every now and again and loved how infectious the melodies are and wanted this to be the single for Drive, but I wanted the right vocalist for it. That’s when I reached out to Tauklo, who I’ve worked with for a little over a decade and consider a brother,” Martron said. “I’ve produced a bunch of records for him over the years, but this is our second collaboration by name that we’ve put out together and a very special one for sure.”
The single lands just months after Martron released his EP Passion in March. That record was focused on self-discovery, digging into identity, roots, and what ultimately defines a person. Drive picks up where that introspection left off and asks what comes next. What motivates you? What pushes you to get better? What are you actually capable of? Martron made the EP in just three months, and he’s leaning into a more energetic, heavier, and darker side of his sound to answer those questions.
It has been a big year for Martron outside of the studio too. He has picked up attention from UKF, Roland, and GQ, and he was featured in Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign. His music has also earned support from ODESZA, NGHTMRE, SLANDER, Niiko x SWAE, and Steve Aoki, along with placements on Spotify playlists like Bass Arcade, Chill Tracks, and Metropolis. If “Hit The Road” is any indication of where Drive is headed, the rest of the EP should be a lot of fun.
Martron and Tauklo’s “Hit The Road” is out now. The Drive EP arrives Tuesday, October 27. Stream “Hit The Road” here.
